Newcomers
You do not have to be sure. You do not have to have stopped drinking. You are welcome to come and only listen.
If you think you might have a problem with alcohol, you are welcome here. There is no cost, no sign-up, and nothing you have to say. Many people come to their first few meetings and only listen.
The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. You do not have to be certain you are an alcoholic, and you do not have to have stopped drinking to attend an open meeting.
What happens
Nobody will ask you to turn it on, and nobody will ask you to speak. The Women's meeting asks anyone new to be on camera when they enter.
Most people use a first name only. Anonymity is the spiritual foundation of AA, and what you hear in a meeting stays there.
Someone chairs, there are a few readings, and then members share for a few minutes each about their experience.
There are no dues or fees. A basket is passed in the sense that members contribute if they can, and that is entirely voluntary.
Start here
If you would like a meeting shaped around being new, this is the one.
